Brownsville
This residential neighborhood in the eastern part of Brooklyn has been considered as a slum for several years. It has one of the highest crime and poverty rate in New York City. Although Jewish factory workers used to live in the city, the number of Latino and African-American residents greatly increased since the 1950’s. It has the highest number of shooting and murder in the city. Generally, the overall crime rate, including crimes that involve murder and robber, has recently decreased. However, this isn’t enough to declare it as a safe neighborhood as it still has the one highest crime rates.
