Shortfin Mako

The shortfin mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus), also called the blue pointer, usually reaches 10 feet in length, with the biggest measured at 15 feet and weighing close to 2,000 lbs. It is one of the fastest sharks and has been recorded to swim at up to 46 mph. Due to its speed it has been seen jumping up to 20 feet high out of the water. There have been 45 recorded attacks with 3 fatalities – so far.
