St. Louis, Missouri is uncharacteristically on the list at number 19. In early 2016, it was called the murder capital of the United States for the number of homicides. The number of homicides in St. Louis jumped from 113 in 2012 and 120 in 2013, to 159 in 2014, and then 188 and 184 in 2015 and 2016, respectively. With 49.93 homicides per 100,000 residents, it is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.
