Blacktip Shark

Another common and widely distributed shark is the Blacktip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus). It inhabits the tropical and subtropical shallow waters of the world. This species is so-named after the black tips on the fins and tails. Blacktips are usually less than 5 feet long, however there have been specimens which are as large as 9 feet and weigh over 220 lbs. These are relatively small sharks which sometimes engage in vigorous attacks. They have an aggressive nature and they make up the highest percentage of shark attacks in Florida. There have been 41 recorded attacks by Blacktips, including one death.
