Hammerhead Shark
The Hammerheads comprise a family of sharks ( Sphyrnidae) ranging in size from about 3 feet to more than 20 feet in length. The hammerhead family of sharks is named after the distinct hammer shape of their heads. This also gives them excellent vision due to the location of the eyes. The biggest is the Great Hammerhead shark (Sphyrna mokarran) that can reach 20 feet and weigh 1,300 lbs. Hammerheads, as a group, have been involved in 34 reported attacks and 1 fatality.
