Bronze Whaler Shark
Also called the Copper shark, the Bronze Whaler shark (Carcharhinus brachyurus) is named after its copper and bronze color. It is well-known for its feeding frenzy on sardines in South Africa as well as for feeding on whales. It stays in warm (but not tropical) waters where it spends time in shallow bays, estuaries and harbors. It reaches 10 feet in length and can weigh as much as 675 lbs. It is not generally common to prey on humans, but it has been known to harass spear fishermen. There have been 35 reported attacks by Bronze Whaler sharks, resulting in 2 fatalities.
