Katla Volcano – Iceland
Katla Volcano located in Iceland poses a different type of hazard to its surroundings – glacial flooding. The main reason for this lies in its structure. It is under the ice cap known as Myrdalsjökull. The 934 explosion produced one of the most voluminous lava flows in history during that time. Today, any explosion might melt the ice cap in a rapid way allowing both melted ice and lava to flow down. It has shown increased activity in recent years.
