Mt. Nyiragongo, Democratic Republic of Congo
Known for its huge lava deposits, Mt Nyaragongo has shown activity in the last few centuries. It also offers one of the most dangerous features an active volcano can offer man, a lake full of lava. Between 1894 and 1977, the volcano held up lava within its crater walls turning it into a glowing pool of disaster. The crater walls crumbled and huge lava deposits flowed down the slopes at speeds of 60 mph. Thousands of people were killed.
